The business world has become increasingly volatile and facing many challenges, such as, globalization, responsiveness to customers, increasing revenue and decreasing costs, building organizational capability, change and transformation, implementing technology, attracting and developing human capital, and ensuring fundamental and long-lasting changes. To sustain in today’s competitive world, an organization needs to establish its uniqueness in business. Human capital makes it possible for any organization and thus has become a critical success factor for organizations.
Recent global financial crisis of 2007-08 has revealed an important business truth. The world economy has been shattered when the market leaders of once started announcing themselves bankrupt. No national economy has been away from this recessional storm. The obvious consequence, ‘job cut’ policy of the organizations has become a nightmare for working people. The biggest challenge of the organizations has been to get rid off poor performers, but retaining right talent. Managing talent efficiently and effectively, perhaps, has become the most important challenge to organizations.
The world economy has witnessed a paradigm shift in HRM practices. HRM is no longer an isolated support function of the organization, rather being considered as a critical primary factor to build business capability and creation of value. HRM strategies aligned with business policy can help the organization to become more effective and earn a unique competitive advantage. Undoubtedly, human competencies are behind the building of high performing organizations. Its role in managing change and innovation leads the organization towards business excellence.
